I love ripple deleting when editting video.
I wanted to do the same thing when investigating long field recordings:
First, I wanted to strip "silence" (a common command in DAWs) with the added macro action of stripping the time where silence was found.
Second, I wanted to do the same process for any audio that was clipping (hard to avoid in long form unmanned field recordings < 32 bit float) and unusable.
For my purposes, I did not need to preserve timing. I also appreciated being able to manage file sizes in a fairly automated workflow. A happy side effect of this process is the magical chance stitching of nonconsequentive moments.Try my web audio application skipper.
